WANA (May 02) – The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran has issued a statement following the United States’ insistence on maintaining and escalating its unlawful sanctions.

The statement is as follows:

Following the U.S. President’s letter to the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Republic of Iran and the declared willingness to pursue a diplomatic path to resolve the unnecessary and fabricated crisis over Iran’s peaceful nuclear program, the Islamic Republic of Iran, in a spirit of goodwill and backed by national strength and public trust, engaged in indirect dialogue with the United States.

In the three rounds of negotiations held so far, the representatives of the Islamic Republic of Iran, within a clear framework grounded in Iran’s principled positions and in accordance with international law on the peaceful use of nuclear energy and the lifting of unjust sanctions, have clearly stated the legitimate demands of the Iranian people and made serious efforts to reach a fair, reasonable, and lasting understanding.

While reaffirming its commitment to the diplomatic path and readiness to continue negotiations, the Islamic Republic of Iran categorically rejects any approach based on threats and pressure — all of which violate the principles of the United Nations Charter and international law, and are designed to harm Iran’s national interests and infringe upon the human rights of Iranian citizens. In this context, it strongly condemns the continuation of unlawful sanctions and pressure on Iran’s economic and trade partners, considering it further proof of the Iranian nation’s justified distrust toward the sincerity of the U.S. in its diplomatic claims.

The continuation of such illegal behavior will not alter Iran’s logical, legitimate, and law-based positions. Undoubtedly, repeating failed and costly strategies will only lead to the same unsuccessful outcomes as before.
